A beautifully crafted set of wooden calculating sticks presented in a wooden storage frame. Calculating sticks in segragations from 1 - 10. Each segregation is finished in a different colour.
The purpose of calculation sticks, also called cuisenaire rods, is to give children a physical item to use to understand quantity and are used to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It is really important that children are able to associate numbers with the physical quantity they represent and that is why calculation sticks are such a valuable math teaching aid. Each colour rod represents a different unit number from 1-10, the different unit rods can be used for mathematical operations for example: ten "1" unit rods fit along the length of the "10" unit rod, thus showing that ten ones go into 10, or a "2 unit" rod and a "3 unit" rod equal the length of a "5 unit" rod.
